Doyle Collab Project: Japanese Khaki Ripcord & Chambray

Matt Smith is the owner of Rebels & Rogues Uniform Co... one of the premier workwear, military, and denim vintage dealers in the United States. He's also to co-creator of the "Apocalypse Duds" podcast and guitarist of Extinction Age. AND one of my closest friends. 

Early in 2024, we spoke of doing a collaborative Doyle jacket together. Matt was inspired by our Japanese ripcord cotton, so we used that as a base fabric. And since he's a huge denimhead, we went with British Khaki as a natural compliment to classic indigo jeans.

We used Japanese indigo chambray as a design accent throughout the jacket. It sits under the collar, inside the cuff, and on the interior pocket. The interior pocket has deep orange embroidery of "RISE AND FALL," one of Extinction Age's key lyrics. Each piece is enzyme washed for softness and a vintage, broken-in look.

Japanese Cotton Ripcord
Based on classic military uniform cloth, Ripcord has a flat micro-scale ribbed weave that gives it exceptional tensile strength. This imparts a subtle visual texture, and will also yield a unique fade pattern with wear. The weight is 9oz, which is on par with the typical pair of chino pants. It's comfortable for year-round wear. This color is classic dark British khaki. 

French Blue 9oz Cotton Twill
Woven in Italy by Larusmiani, this is an absolutely perfect year-round cotton. It's soft and comfortable, and sits on the lighter side for a cotton jacket. The deep French blue color makes this a luxurious take on the classic tones of a French work jacket. 

Auburn 9oz Cotton-Cashmere
Woven in Italy, this is a blend of 95% cotton and 5% cashmere. It's a wonderful fabric that we've used for custom trousers in years past. This has a comfortable year-round weight and the cashmere softens the cloth for a gorgeous hand. This vibrant Auburn color makes a great underpinning for navy, olive, khaki, and grey pieces.  

Speckled Herringbone Wool-Nylon
Woven in Canada, this is a casual take on a classic suiting fabric. This smooth blend of wool and nylon has a mid-scale tonal herringbone weave and a contrast of ecru flecks running throughout. It's lightweight and comfortable... and a great business casual take on the Doyle. 

Olive Cotton 10oz Cavalry Twill
Earlier in the year, our best selling Doyle was Merlot Cavalry Twill. We've managed to source a limited quanity of this excellent fabric in olive. This soft rugged cotton has a pronounced twill structure and a lofty hand. This classic military olive tone will match brilliantly with everything in your wardrobe. 

The Doyle Jacket

The Doyle is our loving homage to the classic French work jacket. Starting with the minimal and utilitarian shape of the original garment, we upgraded the fit, construction, and fabric to create a versatile piece that can be worn as an all-day smart casual garment. It's easy to care for, effortless to wear, and unmatched in its ratio of quality to price. 

Two open patch pockets sit at the hip. They're doubled against the body, allowing your hands to use them both from the side and from the top. A single exterior pocket and a long interior pocket sit on either sides of the chest. The sleeves close with a functional single cuff, and can be unbuttoned and pushed up your forearms. The rear is single vented and the soft top point collar cuts a rakish profile whether open or closed. 

Measurements & Sizing
"Note: All measurements are shown in inches. For the Doyle jacket, "Chest" is measured from one seam under the armpit to the other. "Shoulder" is measured from one shoulder seam to the other, on the rear of the shirt. "Sleeve" is measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve. "Length" is measured from the base of the collar (where it attaches to the jacket body) to the bottom of the tail.
